A More Perfect Union by HouseOfHesse A More Perfect Union by HouseOfHesse
On the 4th July 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed by the 15 Colonies of Acadia; Bermuda; Carolina; Connecticut; Georgia; Maryland;
Massachusetts; Newfounland; New Hampshire; New Jersey; New York; Nova Scotia; Pennsylvania; Rhode Island; and Virginia; asserting their separation from the United Kingdom and creating the United States of America. During the Revolutionary War, they were joined by Quebec and Vermont, effectively stripping the British Empire of all its colonial possessions in continental North America. Over the course of the next 183 years, the United States grew to encompass 72 states and 9 territories, with the accession of Hawaii in 1959, covering almost the entirety of the North American continent.
The United States has three official languages: English; French; and Spanish; all of which are widely spoken, and is approximately the size of OTL Russia, India, and Argentina combined.

I'd also like to acknowledge the work by DaFreak47, AMValencia, and enannglenn which served as both a reference and inspiration for parts of the midwest and northern Canada.

Calendonia Territory. Capital: Dawson Creek (why not Juneau?) Second to the last line, second flag.

Connecticut should be changed to CN, perhaps.

Wow, looks fantastic! I have to say, I love me a big ol' USA. Though I would like to point out that there are two MBs on the map and only one labeled. :P

Haha, that's probably because it's an obnoxiously big file! I'd shrink it down but then one might not be able to see some of the detail on the flags...

Very perfect! I'm thinking of an Alternative US competing with my Greater Eurasian Federation.
With your permission, I would like to use your states flag as my project.
I hope that is not too much for you. :)

Very interesting. What did you use to make the border of Texas? And are you aware that LouisTheFox pretty much ripped off your design?

I used a mixture of the boundaries of the Louisiana purchase, the Rio Grande, and a couple of other rivers of the region (which the names of escape me now)
Meh, I don't have a copyright on this kind of thing, I just do it for fun really! But thanks for letting me know!

Thats the confusing thing for me. The Rio Grande doesn't border this Texas. Meh

I think the very bottom bit is the Rio Grande, the rest is based off a river which I've forgotten the name of now (helpful) as I generally prefer natural borders to straight lines.

I'll just say it. I'm a Texan amateur cartographer and the Rio Grande definitely does not border this Texas, no doubt about it. And there is no river that runs north to south like this. It would have to follow the paths of maybe half a dozen rivers to create a border this rugged. Not trying to hate or anything, just feel the need to clarify that point.

Well in that case I'm sure you know best! I was fairly sure I had based it off a river but perhaps I am wrong. What does it look like it's based off to you?

Well the eastern border is definitely the Sabine River, and the southern border is probably a smaller northern stretch of the Nueces, but the western and northern borders are completely foreign to me. Very small sections look to follow actual rivers, but then vear off in directions the actually rivers never flow.

Several of the Canadian provinces very nearly did in OTL, as did Bermuda which was often called 'the fourteenth colony', the only thing that stopped them was that the UK enacted several laws to appease them. So in this map I explore what would have happened had the British not enacted said laws.

Really awesome but one little suggestion: If you're going to have a flag for a state called Mississippi, don't use a flag with the name Minnesota

If you look really closely at it, you'll see that it says Mississippi, not Minnesota...

As much as I think this map is awesome, I can't help but notice some geographical errors, one of them being that Saskatchewan looks like it is actually covering what would be Alberta XD

:iconhouseofhesse:

Owing to the fact that the region called 'Alberta' was never owned by the British in this timeline, it wouldn't be called 'Alberta' (as I assume it was named after Prince Albert, though I could very well be wrong about that) hence why I chose to use the name of geographic features instead.

Actually; Alberta is named after  Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939),[8] the fourth daughter of Victoria, the Queen of Canada until 1901, and Albert, Prince Consort.

Well thankyou for that, I've learned something! But as I say, in this timeline the region would never have been ruled by a monarch, hence the lack of 'Alberta'.

Is this in the same timeline as your European Federation series? I notice that Russia's territory is controlled by the Eurasian Union, which leads me to believe so. The only conflict I see is Greenland being under American control, but it might have been transferred to the Euros after the war.

I did think about changing this a little to make it fit, but I also liked the idea of having Greenland as a territory so I decided against having them in the same timeline (also, both the European Federation and the US own Bermuda). I decided to include the Eurasian Union in this one because I feel that a stronger United States would have resulted in a stronger USSR as a reaction, and I think it would have survived the collapse of the communist system (which the USSR nearly did anyhow) and probably transformed itself into a Eurasian Union-esque thing. That was just a whim to be honest, but I thought it was interesting.

I see. Would that mean that some of the Eastern Bloc would have been annexed by the USSR or the Eurasian Union?

Yeah, I think that's a logical conclusion to draw. Perhaps the USSR would have Poland as an SSR and have retained Finland, as well as keeping Yugoslavia in check. I've always had a thing for a USSR including Afghanistan and Mongolia too. Hmmm...
