Grand Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Lotharingia

Description

The full ornamental coat of arms of the Kingdom of Lotharingia from my timeline.

My intention here was to create something utterly ridiculous that Charles the Bold would have approved of, to match his political aspirations.

I won't even try and do any blazonry for this, but by way of an explanation:
  • The first and fourth quarters of the escutcheon represent the Duchy of Burgundy, the second the Duchy of Lorraine (and Bar), and the third the United Duchies of Jülich-Cleves-Berg, with the inescutcheon en surtout showing the arms of Flanders and Lorraine impaled.
  • The order is that of the Golden Fleece.
  • The supporters are a lion, taken from the arms of the Duchy of Burgundy and holding a banner of Burgundy, and a white eagle, from the arms of the Duchy of Lorraine and holding a banner of Lorraine.
  • The crown is the Crown of Lorraine (inspired by the one shown here).
  • The crest is that of the House of Valois-Burgundy-Lorraine, and is a combination of the crests of the houses of Valois-Burgundy and Lorraine.
  • The flags above the mantle are those of the traditional provinces of Lotharingia, as shown on the 1815 map (inspired by the coat of arms of Belgium). They are, from left to right:
    • Top: Cambrai, Guelders, Palatine County of Burgundy, Luxembourg, Cleves, Liege, Utrecht, Alsace, Zeeland, Frisia, East Frisia, Cologne
    • Bottom: Mechelen, Mark, Jülich, Limburg, Flanders, Bar, Lorraine, Brabant, Artois, Holland, Berg, Namur, Hainaut, Bentheim

I also made a historical map, contemporary mapdemographic mapflag, collection of emblemsWikipedia-style country info-box, and a legislative map and info-box for this series.
